Aleph privacy policy
Updated: 28 October 2026. Operator: Guy Oren. Support and data deletion: orenguy3110@gmail.com.
Aleph is an independent school companion app operated by Guy Oren. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by Google or the Israeli Ministry of Education.
Google user data the app accesses
Connecting a Google account is optional. When you connect, you see Google's own screen listing each permission, and you can decline. The app uses:
- Basic profile (openid, email, profile): to know which Google account is connected and show its name and email.
- Classroom classes and rosters (read): to list your classes and, for teachers, the students in them.
- Classroom coursework: students see their assignments, due dates and grades, and hand in work; teachers see assignments and submission status and create assignments.
- Google Drive, only files you choose or the app creates (drive.file): to attach a file you pick to your work, or to create a new Google Doc for you. The app cannot see your other Drive files.
The app does not ask for access to all of your Google Drive. Files the app cannot open are opened in Google Drive itself.
How Google data is used
Google data is used only to show you your own Classroom information and to carry out actions you ask for (for example handing in an assignment). Aleph does not sell Google user data, does not use it for advertising, and does not use it to train AI models. Google data is not shared with anyone except as needed to provide these features (the hosting providers below) or when required by law.
Aleph's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. People do not read your Google data, except with your permission for support, for security, or where the law requires it.
School information
Timetables, grades, attendance, homework and messages come from the school that uses the app and are visible according to each person's role (student, teacher, parent or school staff). This information is managed by the school.
Aleph AI (optional)
If the school turns on Aleph AI, a question you write (and any picture you attach) is sent with the context needed to answer it to the AI provider the school connected (for example Groq). Google Classroom content is included only when it is needed for your question. Each person can turn Aleph AI off in the app's settings. AI conversations are stored encrypted and can be deleted in the app.
Storage and security
Google passwords are never collected. Google access tokens are stored encrypted on the server. The service is hosted by Render, and encrypted data is stored in Google Cloud Firestore (Frankfurt, europe-west3). The encryption key is kept separately. Data is sent over HTTPS.
Keeping and deleting data
A Google connection is kept while you use the app and is removed when you disconnect Google in the app or your session ends. Disconnecting also asks Google to revoke the app's access; you can revoke it at any time in your Google Account connections. Files in Google Drive and Classroom stay in your Google account. To ask for deletion of any data held by Aleph, email orenguy3110@gmail.com from the account concerned; please never email passwords.
Children and schools
Aleph is used by schools for their students. Schools and parents are responsible for any permission needed for student use. School Google Workspace administrators can limit or block the app at any time.
Changes
Changes to this policy are shown here with a new date, and, where appropriate, in the app before they take effect.
